Signs of Gum Disease
When you visit Morgan-Hill Dental Care for your regular exam, we will check for any signs of periodontal disease that may be developing. Scaling & Root Planing
Scaling requires removing plaque and tartar build up around the teeth and gums, often reaching deep within the gum pockets, while root planing smooths out the tooth roots. This encourages positive reattachment of the gums and reduces the chances of reinfection over time.
Laser Periodontal Treatment
Using a diode laser, we can easily target pockets of bad bacteria in the deepest crevices of your mouth. Because of the concentrated beam of light, healthy tissues remain untouched while harmful particles are removed, creating a healthy environment for your gums to heal. By using a laser, it minimizes bleeding, swelling, and post-op infection.
Antibiotic Treatment
Antibiotic treatment is commonly used in combination with scaling and root planing and/or laser periodontal treatment. Because bacteria can burrow into areas that cannot be reached with traditional instruments, we can apply a specific antibiotic to your gum pockets. The medication will then disperse over several weeks, eliminating any remaining bacteria and allowing for successful healing.
